LOCAL GASTROENTEROLOGIST NAMED
TO AREA’S TOP DOCTOR LIST
FORT MYERS, FL–April 2–James W. Penuel, Jr., M.D. of Digestive
Health Physicians, PL, has been selected by New York-based
Castle Connolly Medical
as one of the top doctors in Southwest Florida. The listing, announced by
Gulfshore Life Magazine, was compiled by a physician-led team of researchers who
screened local candidates using a rigorous set of criteria.
This year only 110 physicians in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties were
awarded this prestigious designation. Doctors do not and cannot pay to be
selected and profiled as Castle Connolly Top Doctors. Honorees are, instead,
selected by Castle Connolly's physician-directed research team who use a
combination of telephone and direct mail surveys of local physicians and
hospital administrators to select worthy candidates.
Dr. Penuel is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine. He
performed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency, as well as his
Gastroenterology Fellowship, at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans.
He has served the healthcare needs of Southwest Florida since 1982.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology, Dr.
Penuel is an advocate for outstanding patient care. He previously has served as
a member of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Department of Medicine, and
as a member of the Medical Staff Executive committee of Southwest Florida
Regional Medical Center. He has also served as Chairman of the Gastroenterology
Section of Lee Memorial Hospital.
He presently serves as president of the newly formed Independent Physicians
Association of Lee County (www.ipalc.org), an organization of Lee County
physicians formed to advocate for independent medical practice and quality
medical care for the community.
Digestive Health Physicians, PA is a dedicated group of gastroenterologists all
of whom are Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Their
main office and outpatient endoscopy center are located at Coca Sabal Lane off
Gladiolus Drive near Lakes Park in South Fort Myers. The practice also staffs a
