Patients, families and friends affected by cancer experience a wide range of emotions. Sharing your feelings and experiences with others and listening to what others have to say can be therapeutic. Groups provide a safe and supportive opportunity to explore emotions and to receive reassurance that you are not alone. Coping skills are enhanced and you learn that you can extend help to others as well as receive it.

What Cancer Can't Do
Cancer is so limited...

It cannot cripple Love
It cannot shatter Hope
It cannot corrode Faith
It cannot eat away Peace
It cannot destroy Confidence
It cannot kill Friendship
It cannot shut out Memories
It cannot silence Courage

Guidelines for participation include: Focusing on feelings about living with cancer. Understanding that feelings belong to the individual and are not criticized by someone else or even yourself. Speaking when you wish, being silent if you choose, but remember that help comes from telling your story.

Tasks of recovery include:
Accepting the reality of the situation and the disease. Experiencing both the emotional and physical pain. Developing new routines.
Reinvesting in other relationships, projects and life.

The Colorectal Cancer Support Group is your
meeting place for a better understanding
of your disease and its treatment
